Graduating from college is a big step and can be both exciting and scary.  It’s a milestone.

“I’m both excited and nervous to graduate, but mostly excited because it’ll be a whole new chapter in my life. So even if I’m leaving behind some of what I know, I’m going to learn and see so much more,” said Kaden Ketterl, a South Hutchinson sophomore.

Going to college can prepare a person for a job or the next step in someone’s college journey. That could mean entering the workforce or getting a bachelor’s degree at a four-year college. Also, college degrees open many doors and opportunities.

“I plan to attend K-State to work towards getting a bachelor’s degree in Agronomy,” Ketterl said.

Getting any college degree is not an easy feat. Students work hard and do a lot to get that diploma.

“The majority of the students who do really well and can get to that graduation moment are the ones that buckle in and do the work,” said Bernadett Dillon, an academic advisor at HutchCC.

Going to college can be stressful and can be a lot for students. The finish line is almost in sight, and even though the end can bring stress, Dillon said not to give up when it’s so close.

“Just take a deep breath, especially when we’re at this part of the semester, we’re almost done with the semester,” Dillon said.

Procrastinating is an easy thing to do, especially at the end of the semester. It’s something teachers and advisors see often in students.

“I feel like there is some procrastination. I think that I see that as a common factor for either if they’re struggling, typically those students who are procrastinating a lot,” Dillon said.

Graduating takes consistent effort and the ability to complete work on time.
