The Lady Dragons volleyball team played at home Oct. 27 against Barton and won.
The scores were 25-14, 25-16, and 25-7.
Hutch’s record is now 27-8 and 14-1 in the Jayhawk West Conference.
Even after losing their first conference game since 2013, the Dragons were still able to take their fourth-consecutive Jayhawk West conference title.
Jai Chapman, Liberal, had a career-high of 12 kills with just one error on 23 hits.
Aubrey Wilson, Bennington, added six kills, four block assists, and 14 set assists.
Overall, the Dragons had 36 kills and eight team blocks.
Tarynn Stueder, Great Bend, had 20 set assists and two aces.
After the first 14 points, the Dragons tallied five of their eight blocks and held the lead 10-4.
Then the Dragons went on a 5-1 run and their lead grew to 16-5.
Barton answered with a 5-0 run, but Hutch followed with a 4-0 run of their own.
The score was 22-14.
Three-consecutive Dragon kills ended the first set, 25-14.
Barton took the lead to open the second set 4-1, but the Dragons went on an 8-0 run.
Four of those points came from Johanna Voss, Sundern, Germany, after three kills and a solo block.
Hutch had the lead, 9-4.
Barton wasn’t letting the Dragons get too far ahead.
The score was 16-13.
The Dragons went on a 6-0 run capped off by a Chapman kill.
The score for the second set was 25-16.
The third set was an easy win for Hutch.
The Dragons allowed only three Barton kills in the third set.
To start off the third set, the Dragons had a 6-1 run.
After a 9-0 run by Hutch, the score was 17-4.
The ending score of the game was 25-7.
The Dragons played in the Jefferson Tournament in Hillsboro, Missouri, on Oct. 23 and 24.
The Dragons broke even with two wins and two losses.
Hutch is scheduled to play Colby, the only conference team to beat the Dragons since 2013, at home on Thursday, Oct. 29.
