The Hutchinson Community College Women’s Basketball Team has been on a roll and has established a good standing to where the the Blue Dragons are today.
The Blue Dragons defeated No. 20 Williston State College 54-50 on Tuesday in the first round of the NJCAA Division 1 Championships in Lake Charles, La. The 13th-seeded Blue Dragons are set to play against the No. 4 seed Northwest Florida State at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday.
KaMyra Barber led the Blue Dragons with a career-high of 21 points and 17 rebounds. Barber was the catalyst for the Blue Dragons to come back from the first half, with the Blue Dragons outscoring Williston State 35-23 in the second half.
The Blue Dragons shot 35% for the game and outrebounded Williston State 43-32, bringing in 12 offensive boards.
The Blue Dragons impressively defended the ball. The Blue Dragons took their first lead since the first quarter going into the fourth quarter, leading 38-37. It wasn’t going to be easy for the Blue Dragons, but they made it work in the fourth quarter.
