The Lady Dragon volleyball team traveled to Great Bend to play the Cougars of Barton County on Sept. 23.

Hutch won all three sets of the game; the scores were 25-12, 25-18, and 25-9.

Winning this game bumped the Dragons’ ranking up to No. 5.

Their record is now 14-1 overall and 7-0 in the Jayhawk West Conference.

This makes 28 consecutive Jayhawk West wins for the Dragons, which is the most in team history.

Their win streak started in 2013.

The second set wasn’t as easy for Hutch because Barton was able to tie the set at 11.

The Dragons went on a 5-1 run after back-to-back kills from Maddi Cumpston, Maize.

After another five-point run for Hutch, Barton scored three in a row, but that was enough to stop the Dragons from winning the second set.

The score was 25-18.

The third set was tied 7-7 until Tarynn Stueder, Great Bend, had an eight point scoring spree while serving.

The Dragons had 14 kills in the third set, which helped them finish the game with a score of 25-9.

Petra Silic, Zagreb, Croatia, had 12 kills.

Right behind Silic was Jai Chapman, Liberal, who had 11 kills.

Aubrey Wilson, Bennington, had eight kills on 15 swings.

Johanna Voss, Sundern, Germany, had five kills for Hutch.

Stueder had a Jayhawk West season-high of 29 set assists.

Hutch played at Pratt against the Pratt Beavers on Sept. 21.

Hutch won the game.

The scores were 25-20, 25-13, 21-25, 23-25, 25-11, and 15-11.

The Beavers were the only Jayhawk West team to beat the Dragons in more than one set so far this season.

The Dragons with the most kills were Silic and Chapman, with 12 kills each.

Stueder had 28 set assists and Wilson had 27.

The Dragons were able to push points in the first two sets, but weren’t able to make as many plays in the third and fourth sets.

Hutch finally recovered and won their final set, taking the game.

The Dragons played school rivals, the Butler Grizzlies, at home on Sept. 18.

Hutch won the match after beating Butler in just three sets.

The scores were 25-17, 25-15, and 25-13.

Wilson had nine kills, five of them being in the first set.

Silic had seven kills, three block assists, and a service ace.

Hutch is scheduled to play in the Blue Dragon Invitational tournament Sept. 25-26 in the Sports Arena.

Their first game kicks off at 1p.m. Sept. 25 against the New Mexico Military team.
