If you asked Hutchinson Community College students how the new semester has started, you’d get a mixed bag of answers. But one thing that most students experienced was the substantial amount of snow Hutchinson got right before classes started.
For some students, snow is common. But for others, it was an entirely new phenomenon, especially for the Australian freshman Lachlan Rosser.
Rosser, who hails from Wollongong, New South Wales in Australia, had a mixed response to the recent snowfall.
“I thought it was pretty cool at first for the first time seeing snow, as I don’t get any snow where I live,” said Rosser.
“But then after a couple days, it got pretty annoying that we couldn’t practice outside and I got stuck inside for three weeks.”
Rosser had a good point – the snow really did keep everyone inside, especially athletes that relied on outside fields.
For Haven sophomore Cooper Willams, the time spent inside was positive.
“I was pretty excited when I realized how much snow we got,” Willams said. “I also hung out with some friends I hadn’t seen in a while, and got to catch back up with them.”
While Willams had a pretty positive opinion of the snow, his fellow sophomore Ethan Glover didn’t share in the positivity quite as much.
Glover, a sophomore from Hutchinson, had pretty strong feelings on the snow.
“At first I enjoyed the snow, but after a few days, it really started to piss me off,” Glover said. “It took me an hour to clear a way out of my driveway and defrost (my) truck. When I finally got on the roads I was slipping and sliding all over the place.”
It remains to be seen if Hutchinson will get anymore snow over the next month or two, but you can bet that the reactions from HutchCC students will be diverse.
