The Hutchinson Collegian staff won the All-Kansas Award for Two-Year Colleges award from Kansas Collegiate Media for the fourth straight year.
The award was presented when the Collegian staff attended the Kansas Media Conference at Wichita State University. The staff had entered their work from the calendar year of 2025 into the different categories for judging.
This year’s staff won many awards. Editor in Chief Lizzie Rush was awarded Two-Year College Journalist of the Year. The Collegian staff as a total received 34 other individual awards at the conference.
“I think we did awesome at the convention,” Rush said. “I am so proud of this staff and all the great work they did last year. All of their work is appreciated and it really showed at the convention.”
The faculty advisor of the Hutchinson Collegian, Brad Hallier, was proud of the work staff had done in the last year.
“I was really proud of Lizzie, continuing a great run Collegian staffers have had in the journalist of the year competition,” Hallier said. “Lizzie has revamped our social media presence, especially on Instagram. Her creativity and versatility make Lizzie great at what she does.”
The first day of the conference was April 13. The conference had guest speakers to start off the conference before breaking off into small workshop groups.
To finish up the conference for the day the organizers handed out half of the awards to end the afternoon.
Monday morning there was a small breakout session where different staff members of different media groups from other schools got to talk and discuss their different ways of going about things. There were an additional two rounds of the breakout workshops before continuing to the banquet to wrap up the end of the conference.
At the banquet, awards were again handed out and to close the conference.
“I was in particular proud of the variety of awards won by the staff, from writing to design to social media,” Hallier said. “The students have put a lot of work into upping our social media presence, and I was happy to see their work rewarded.”
