Dungeons & Dragons, commonly referred to as DND, is a fantasy-based role-playing game where one’s fate is decided by the roll of a die. Hutchinson Community College’s DnD club will be putting on Game Fest on at 10 a.m. Saturday at Parker Student Union for students to dip their toes, the world of DND.
Janelle Voth, HutchCC’s DND club’s Dungeon Master, will be taking a step back during Game Fest, as many members of the existing D&D club will be taking over the role of guiding players through the game as dungeon masters.
Typically DND is a game that is told over several sessions of the game. During Game Fest, rather than following this typical method of storytelling, dungeon masters curate “stories to be told in one day,” Voth said.
Michael Johnson, Haven freshman, will be one of the DND club members to step up to this new role during game fest. Game Fest is “a great chance for students to try different play styles, experiment with new ideas, and gain experience as both players and dungeon masters,” Johnson said.
Regular sessions for the DND club are met with “a relaxed and creative group that loves storytelling, collaboration, and building community around shared imagination,” Johnson said.
For those wishing to attend Game Fest, experience is not necessary.
“Whether they’re totally new to the game (of DND) or have been playing for years,” Johnson said that there will be a fun and welcoming environment.
