On Saturday evening, the Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball team crowned themselves champions of Region 6 after beating Barton Community College 82-66 in the finals in Salina.
Their win punched their ticket to the 2022 NJCAA Women’s Division I National Tournament.
The next day, the Blue Dragons were seeded into the tournament, being seeded at No. 19. The tournament will take place in Lubbock, Texas, at Lubbock Christian University.
The Blue Dragons will play their first game at 10 a.m. on March 17, against the Region 9 champions No. 14 Casper College, at the Rip Griffin Center.
Their first-round matchup will be the third game between the two in school history, with the series currently being split 1-1.
This will be the 11th appearance in the national tournament for the Blue Dragons, their last appearance being in 2019. They made it to the semifinals, but lost to New Mexico Junior College 60-54.
