Hutchinson Community College sophomore guard Saquan Singleton was the first Blue Dragon on the 2020 men’s basketball team to sign. He will be attending the University of New Mexico to further his academic and basketball career.
During his sophomore year, the 6-foot-6 guard from the Bronx, N.Y. led the team in rebounding, assists and steals. Not only that, but he was ranked on the KJCCC statistical Top 20 list in seven different categories.
Singleton averaged 11.8 points per game, 7.2 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 1.5 steals. He blocked 30 shots all season.
Impressively, Singleton was an influential player for the successful 2019-20 team. They finished 23-9 and tied for third in the Jayhawk West.
Additionally, he earned two post-season honors, including first-team All-Jayhawk West and second-team All-Region 6.
Singleton played well against Northeastern Oklahoma A&M back on Nov. 12, posting a triple-double of 14 points, 13 rebounds and 11 assists. He also had three other double-doubles this season.
Singleton is the 35th Blue Dragon to sign with a Division I program within the last 10 years, since coach Steve Eck has been in charge of the program.
