The Blue Dragon baseball team started off conference play with a sweep of the Pratt Beavers with games on March 4, 5, and 6.
The scores were 19-6, 7-2, 6-2, and 8-4.
Hutch’s record is now 14-1 overall and 4-0 in the Jayhawk West conference.
After winning 14 consecutive games, Hutch ties with the 2002 team for the best start to a season in HCC history.
In the final game, Jake Bublitz, Denver, Colorado, tied a career high of four hits.
Cade Doga, Ruston, Louisiana, and Cole Donaldson, St. Charles, Missouri, each had a home run.
The Dragons took the lead at the top of the third after scoring three runs.
The score was 3-1.
At the top of the sixth, Hutch pushed their lead to 5-1.
During the seventh inning, the Dragons scored two, as Doga had an inside-the-park home run, 7-1.
Over the last few innings, Hutch allowed three more runs to be scored and scored one themselves.
The Dragons finished the sweep after winning the fourth game 8-4.
Throughout the series, the Dragons had 55 hits and had seven home runs.
The Dragons are scheduled to play double headers against Seward County at home on Saturday, March 12, and Sunday, March 13.
The games start at 1 p.m. at Hobart-Detter Field, in Carey Park.
