English speaking artists are brought to us from all around the globe, and the easiest way to find those artists, is the Internet.
Troye Sivan is a singer, songwriter, actor and YouTube personality.
He is 20 years old and was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, but he moved away from the city with his parents when he was two years old due to the rise in crime.
Raised in a Jewish family the tension in Africa was too much for them. They ended up in Perth, Australia, where he grew up and developed his love for arts.
Sivan is actually his middle name, but he embraced it as his stage name when he started performing. He started his career really early. He released his first EP in 2007 named “Dare to Dream” but his success doesn’t fly overseas.
What really opened the world to him was his single “Happy Little Pill” released in July 2014. Sivan said in an interview that he wrote the song about one of his friends who was dealing with serious issues.
The song talks about how people are using their free time.
The “happy little pill” is implied to be a drug. The lyrics are prefund and talk about actual issues that people are really going through.
More recently, the Australian artist released a new EP named “Wild” on September 2015 as a precede of the album “Blue Neighborhood.”
The songs on the album are upbeat and deep. “Wild was the first song released from the album, it talks about forbidden love and the desire for it.
This song was the first of a music video trilogy on YouTube. The two other songs are “Fools” and “Talk Me Down.” The first song is a song about denying who you are and how it is so easy to be fooled by someone.
The videos deals with suicide and how the issue is really serious.
Troye Sivan came out as gay to the world on his YouTube channel on Aug. 7, 2013, exactly three years after he came out to his parents.
His homosexuality is not a secret and it is strength for him. He encourages people to be who they are and they love who love without being ashamed of it.
His songs are per definition about boys, but everybody can relate to it.
His last song, “Youth” was released on Nov. 2015 and the YouTube video was launched on Feb. 26, 2016. Sivan said, “‘Youth’ is a song about the joy in naivety and being lost.
It’s about dropping everything, running away, making mistakes, and loving too hard, and how that’s OK.”
