The Blue Dragon men’s basketball team played Cloud County at home on Feb. 13 for the homecoming game.

The Dragons won, 79-45, which brought their record to 25-3 overall and 14-3 in the Jayhawk West conference.

It was Hutch’s ninth win in a row.

The leading scorer for Hutch was Akbar Hoffman, Newark, New Jersey, with 21 points and he also added five rebounds.

Just behind Hoffman was Bashier Ahmed, Bronx, New York, with 18 points and 12 rebounds.

This was Ahmed 10th double-double of the season.

Overall the team had 47 rebounds, 21 assists, and 10 steals.

Over the first nine minutes of the game, the Dragons held Cloud County to only three points, while Hutch scored 22.

The score was 22-3.

As the Dragons scored 13 points unanswered, their lead grew to 36-9.

When the half ended the score was 38-15.

Hutch outscored their opponents 41-30 in the final half.

Their lead grew too as much as 35 points.

Hutch held the lead from the second the game started and won 79-45.

The Dragons beat Dodge City 82-69 on Feb. 3, Colby 94-62 on Feb. 6 and finally

Seward County 87-85 on Feb. 10.

During the Dodge City game, Hoffman hit a career-high of 11 field goals including 9-15 during the closing half.

Against Colby, the Dragons hit a season-high of 11 3-pointers with three players having at least 20 points.

After Ahmed scored 24 points, he cracked the top ten of all time leading scored for the Blue Dragon men’s basketball team with 1,119 points.

This game also helped head coach Steve Eck tie for third place for the most wins during a coaching career at Hutch.

Hutch came from behind to beat Seward County after being down by nine points at halftime.

The Dragons are scheduled to play at home in the Sports Arena on Saturday, Feb. 20, against Barton.

The game tips off at 7:30p.m.
