The Blue Dragon women’s basketball team took on Cloud County on Jan. 30 and won 62-51.

This was Hutch’s 20th win of the season, advancing their record to 20-1 overall and 10-1 in the Jayhawk West Conference.

The leading scorer for the Dragons was Inja Butina, Zagreb, Croatia, with 18 points and 9 assists.

Daisha Terry, Macon, Georgia, scored 14 points for Hutch, while Lakin Preisner, Americus, scored 13 points and seven rebounds.

Hutch barely outrebounded their opponents, 40-39.

The Dragons weren’t able to score until about the six-minute mark in the first quarter.

With three minutes remaining, Cloud County held the lead 12-6 as Hutch ended the quarter on a 7-1 run to tie the game 13-13.

After Cloud County took the lead, 19-17, Terry stole the ball and scored to tie the game.

Shortly after, Butina made a free throw to make the score 20-19 and the Dragons kept the lead for the remainder of the game.

As the half ended, the Dragons held the lead 28-24.

With three minutes remaining in the third quarter, the Dragons continued to build their lead.

The score was 45-37.

The Dragons continued to build their lead with five minutes left and the score was 58-44.

Hutch won the game 62-51.

The Dragons took on Seward County at home on Jan. 20 and beat their rivals 66-62.

Three Hutch player score 15 points and over, but the leading scorer was Preisner with 19 points.

The other two were Kirea Rogers, Wichita, and Taylor Stahly, Newton.

Rogers added 18 points and an impressive 14 rebounds, while Stahly had 15 points.

Hutch is scheduled to play Barton in Great Bend on Saturday, Jan. 30.

The game tips off at 5:30 p.m.
