The year is 2016 and if your goal is to offend people by doing absolutely nothing, then this is your year.

Last year’s Oscar nominations drew protests for lack of diversity. This year, it’s even worse.

Oscar contenders such as Oscar Isaac of Ex Machina, Jason Mitchell of Straight Outta Compton, and Will Smith of Concussion all missed out on nominations, resulting in the hashtag #OscarsSoWhite trending on Twitter for the second year.

Some members of the Academy are speaking out about the lack of diversity in the acting categories for the upcoming Oscars.

Actor, director, writer, and producer Spike Lee announced on Instagram that he’d be skipping the ceremony next month due to no people of color in its four major acting categories for the second year in a row.

But there’s one thing I can’t quite understand. Why so much hatred towards whites and the Oscars while blacks are giving awards to only blacks on separate black television networks?

Stacey Dash, a Fox contributor, called out Black Entertainment Television for giving awards largely to black people.

“Either we want to have segregation or integration. If we don’t want segregation, then we need to get rid of channels like BET and the BET Awards where you’re only awarded if you’re black,” said Dash.

I have a feeling this isn’t the only diversity issue we’ll see in 2016.
