‘Kiss Kill Vanish’ keeps you edgy

“Kiss Kill Vanish,” by Jessica Martinez, is a must read for 2015. It is about a girl named Valentina Cruz who witnesses her boyfriend kill someone.

Under distress, she changes her name to Jane and choses to shed her life of privilege and leave the glittery parties behind.

Being only 17 years old, Cruz’s decision to run away from her life becomes difficult. Independence doesn’t come easily.

While working as a muse for a prestigious painter, she makes her money slowly but steadily.

She starts a budding friendship with her employer’s brother Marcel, and can’t decide if she hates him or is fascinated by him.

She fights hunger and poverty while living in a community home with five other tenants. When her employer mysteriously dies, she finds herself locked into a world she didn’t even know she was born in. As she rises to find the answers and justice, Cruz finds herself — and the strength to survive.

The beginning is slow, but the further you read, the more engrossed you become with the characters. The book is well written and the details bring you into the book.

While hanging on to your seat, you feel as if you are living through Cruz’s character. When she cries, you cry; when she laughs, you laugh.

The plot is well crafted and intelligent. I was caught off guard by how emotionally invested I was in this story. I was hooked from the start.

I have always said if an author can get me to drop everything, because I’m so absorbed in a story, they must be a genius.

This is one of those stories.

If you are looking for a book engulfed with mystery and edge of your seat action, this is the book for you.

The twist and turns of this novel will send you on a ride to die for and you won’t want to put this book down.
