There are people who, once the clock strikes midnight on Halloween, have all their spooky decorations torn down and all their Christmas stuff out and ready for the holiday. They might even start listening to Christmas music as soon as Halloween night, but that begs the question.
When is the “right” time to start getting ready for Christmas?
Some would argue that the right time could be as early as October, before Halloween is even over, since some stores like Walmart or Hobby Lobby will have Christmas stuff set out and already selling fast. The joy of winter may be floating around the minds of those ready for a break, or kids ready for some brand new toys.
Though one could claim the opposite, and say Christmas shouldn’t even be touched until late November or early December. When the weather starts to get bitter, and there may even be a bit of snowfall. When all other holidays are finally over, then it’s the right time.
Hutchinson Community College freshman Cassidy Banning kind of fits in the middle here.
“I feel like putting up Christmas decorations any earlier than November is weird, but Christmas music should really just be reserved until December,” Banning said. “Listening to it any earlier is just strange.”
Now the topic of Christmas music is a whole other thing all on its own. Some will listen to it year-round, while others can’t even stand to listen to it during Christmas.
Though there are those few who say that Christmas music should start as soon as it gets cold, we all know Mariah Carey loves her comebacks..
“Christmas decorations and music should really wait until after Thanksgiving, it’s just unnecessary to start a holiday while still in the middle of another,” said freshman Tanner Brown. “If you compare it to other holidays, they usually don’t start decorating until a few weeks in advance, not over a month.” There might not even be a right time to start getting ready for the holiday, but really, it’s in the eye of the beholder.
