As Hurricane Helene was still winding through the southeast United States, Hurricane Milton made its way in.
People all over the Southeast have been left with devastation and worry about what is in store for the next few months. The hurricanes haven’t only taken people’s homes, but have also left many injured and deceased.
Hutchinson Community College students from the southeast were tuned in to the developments.
“There is really no way to prepare for the hurricanes,” said Carson Bradley, a student who hails from Quincy, Fla.
Preparation differs in whatever area you live in and whether or not you’re able to get access to the things you need. It’s not very known how people prepare before the hurricanes come to attack, but we usually hear about how people act upon it after the disaster.
“My community prepares for the hurricane by going to the stores way before the hurricane comes and get all the groceries and water we’ll need during the time,” said HutchCC student Curtis Hood, who is from Fort Myers, Fla.
The people from Florida who attend HutchCC haven’t been through the hurricanes going on right now, but having to wonder if your family is going to be OK and if you’re going to be able to see them when you do arrive home is a devastating thought.
“The first hurricane was about an hour away and then the second hurricane was six hours away from my house,” Bradley said.
Both Hood’s and Bradley’s homes were not affected by the hurricanes. The eye of the hurricane was about 150 miles away from Hood’s community and 80 miles away from Bradley’s community.
“My mama just said it got super windy where I live, but that’s all that happened near my house,” Hood said.
