Worst ways to react to text messages and E-Mails

Reactions to messages and how we react are normal in our everyday lives, and how people react can vary from age.

Texting and emails are among the main sources of communication in this day and age and responses can vary with the age of the person and the means of communication

Trevor Homewood, a Hutchinson freshman, said his favorite social media texting apps are Snapchat and Instagram.

“Social media is moving so quickly I feel like there’s no time for IMessage,” Homewood said.

But what should you do if you don’t want to converse with someone?

Ghosting, or not responding back, is not cool, fun, or complete to Homewood.

“Ghosting them back is the ultimate move,” Homewood said.

When people ghost him, he will add a game to play off of IMessage to get a response out of that person. Corresponding to how someone reacts on different text messaging apps. He might do another approach, such as not even responding at all, but it depends on the person. Homewood’s worst response that he thinks someone could give ever is “k” . It really grinds his gears and makes him upset.

Terri McQueen is a professor who teaches English Composition for HutchCC. She is constantly sending and receiving messages and emails from staff and students. When she is using DragonZone or email, she always responds to her emails. She said she hopes they respond or read them because people are around technology everywhere.

The downgrade from strictly using email is she gets filled with junk mail and it interferes with her personal work. When McQueen works, she works out of folders and has student and staff emails organized into different sections. She is very dedicated to responding to those emails as long as people respond back.

Christian Johnson, a Birmingham, Ala., sophomore, says he is always on his socials, on and off the field, when he is sending messages he tries to respond personally to avoid bias with his coaches and teammates.

Johnson is more of a personal responder. He would rather talk in person than over text, but if he does, he makes sure to show his personality in his messages.

When Johnson gets ghosted, he said it doesn’t affect him because it’s hard to add emoticons to words. When he talks to his coaches, he says he is “real with them” and he tries to include his personality in those text messages.
