Summer is quickly advancing on us here at Hutchinson Community College. With that comes lots of free time away from studying hard and 8 a.m. classes. Now what is one to do with all that extra time? Here are a few lower cost options, so you can enjoy summer without spending too much.

Going on a walk can be an amazing way to both clear your head while also keeping you healthy. Hutchinson has a number of fantastic parks that have several different types of trails. Sand Hills State Park is great option for those that aren’t necessarily avid hikers. With some uphill climbing but a mostly remote straight forward hike that can be done in as little as 30 minutes. If you are not that adventurous, Orchard Park on 43rd Street is a low key walking path that also holds both a playground and fishing pond.

If you’re wanting escape the heat, window shopping down main street is always a good option. Pop into Smith’s Market for some low cost snacks to fill you up on your stroll. You can find me hiding from the suns rays inside our local library. With their massive selection of all books fiction as well as nonfiction, you are certain to find a good book to curl up with. If reading doesn’t float your boat, they also hold a wide selection of dvds and audiobooks.

For more lively entertainment places like The Hutchinson Zoo, Fox Theatre, and the Cosmosphere are great lower costing options that are great to visit more than just once or twice.

Summer doesn’t have to be all work and no play even though most of us are quickly entering the world of adulthood. Pick up a new hobby, join a run club, or even a game night with friends with pick up your spirits on those warm summer nights.
