Steve Carpenter, the Sports Information Director at Hutchinson Community College has been working for the college for over 20 years, with him being a Sports Information Director since 2004.

Hutchinson Community College holds memories for Carpenter. Preparing for games as a SID is special and unique, with different stat programs and statistics that he has.

“You have to have all of your stuff together for the table, you have to have all of your stuff together for the media, you got to have together for any sporting events,” Carpenter said.

Carpenter was named the NJCAA Sports Information Director of the Year, with plenty of memories to go along with passion in his profession.

“Going to the football national championship was very special because I didn’t get to go to the one in 2021, my daughter (Stephanie) was getting married that day, so I figure I go watch her walk down the aisle then watch the championship,” Carpenter said.

Plenty of memories were made during the December championship game in Canyon, Texas for Carpenter.

“We weren’t looking too good in the first half and we kicked ourselves back into the game, going in with our backup quarterback, his first pass was a strike for a touchdown, and then we scored three straight touchdowns to take the lead and hold on,” Carpenter said.

Carpenter didn’t win the award just for showing up to the games, he won the award for the passion of athletics and sports.
