Between the stress of classes, studying and exams, many students are forced to add another significant hurdle to their college life – actually making money.
Although it’s stressful, making money is one of the most important parts of life, and, unfortunately, the business of college does not take it away.
However, for many students, a full-time job simply doesn’t work out with their schedules, so they must find other ways to make this money – through side hustles.
A side hustle is simply a way to make extra money outside of a main job or responsibility, like school. This could be anything from delivering food to tutoring or babysitting.
Freshman Caden Hendrix has found several ways to make extra money during his very busy schedule.
“A few side hustles I had consisted of cleaning up at the Fox Theatre after some shows … and the other was DoorDash,” Hendrix said.
Side hustling doesn’t always have to add extra stress, as Hendrix claims it can actually be fun.
“I would DoorDash mainly for fun with my wife,” he said. “It gave us an excuse to drive around and hang out while getting paid to do it.”
DoorDash seems to be a popular side hustle amongst students, specifically because of the timing convenience.
“With DoorDash, I can make my own schedule and do work at my convenience,” said Nadiya Garcia, a freshman in general studies.
The ability to make your own schedule for a lot of side hustles is crucial for many college students, as their busy schedules allow them to still make money when it’s convenient for them.
However, one or two side hustles still doesn’t make everything easy.
“It’s always gonna be harder if you’re living off of side hustles that make you a small amount of money each time,” Garcia said. “You just can’t rely on that all of the time.”
Although it can be unreliable, side hustles still remain the only choice for a lot of college students. They allow students to be able to make some extra money on their own time, which is ultimately much better than nothing.
