On a sunny, warm winter day, the Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragons faced off against the Georgia Military Bulldogs for a spot in the NJCAA National Championship. Both teams came out ready to play with lots of energy making the game chippy at the beginning. The Blue Dragons showed up and showed out, winning 63-21.
Putting up the first points on the board, Georgia Military scored with 1 minute and 18 seconds left in the first quarter. The Blue Dragons responded fast as Samari Collier threw a 41-yard pass to Ja’Cory Thomas tying the score 7-7.
The Bulldogs went back and forth with the Blue Dragons before scoring again and putting them up 14-7
HutchCC went on quite the run, scoring three touchdowns in about 8 minutes. Two touchdowns were from Waymond Jordan Jr., the third by La’Terrius Robinson with extra point conversions by Nestus Burger.
The Bulldogs scored their final touchdown with 40 seconds left in the second quarter but still trailed behind the Blue Dragons 28-21.
Continuing the success from the first half, HutchCC came out for the third quarter wanting more. Georgia Military’s offensive and defense were shut down by the Blue Dragons for the remainder of the game.
Taking this win makes Hutchinson 10-1 overall and will play Iowa Western on Dec. 18 in Canyon Texas for the national championship title.
