Amanda Higginbotham is a Hutchinson Community College sophomore from Haven. She is a Vocal Music Education major that is active in many groups around campus. Higginbotham sat down this week to answer some questions about her and her time at HutchCC.

What are you most looking forward to after graduation?

Starting my own life and new career. Getting to teach and create music everyday.

What is your go to snack or drink after a long day of classes?

Probably Mountain Dew or the Khaotic flavored Monster.

What does your class schedule look like?

I am basically at the college from a.m. to 4 p.m. everyday. I am taking Music Theory, Piano, Aural Skills, all of the ensembles at (HutchCC) regarding band and choir. Then I am also taking a General Biology class.

What does your living situation look like? Who do you live with?

I currently live with my parents and dogs. Although, with how busy I am I barely make it home except to sleep.

What are some songs that you currently have on repeat?

“Caravan” by the New York Voices, “How Deep Is Your Love” by the Bee Gees, and “Honey You” by Dead South.

Do you work? If so, what do you do?

I am a Vision Leader for kindergarteners and first graders at the Boys & Girls Club. A little side note to anyone who wants or needs a job, we are understaffed and hiring.

What was the last TV show you binge watched?

“Too Hot to Handle”

What is one item you cannot live without that is not necessary?

Probably my headphones.

What is the best idea you have ever had for a business?

I did want to have something like a Sonic in Haven, but it would be barbecue. But like a drive in kind of thing because Haven does not really have that much food.

What is one question you wish people would ask you less?

Are you busy? The answer is always yes.

What is one thing you’ve learned recently?

I learned how to solo using the blues scale on the piano and Dorian scales.

What are your plans after HutchCC and other goals?

I plan to graduate from HCC and then attend a four-year university to continue getting my degree. And then after I obtain said degree, go on to get my job and create music.

What are some of your interests/hobbies?

I’m really into music. I’ve kind of grown fond of it. I also like to be active. I am a part of Challenge outside of school. On campus I am involved in College Ministry, Ambassadors, Badinage (the auditioned HutchCC jazz choir), concert chorale, jazz band, symphonic band, and pep band.
