It’s not just another survey.

That is the slogan for this year’s Ruffalo Noel-Levitz, a student satisfaction survey given at Hutchinson Community College every other year.

Jess Fortner, the Curriculum and Program Improvement Coordinator, said that this survey is different.

“We look at what is most important to students and how satisfied are they with what is most important to them,” Fortner said. “And that’s the purpose of it (the student satisfaction survey) is to improve the campus and get students’ feedback to make things better.”

The student satisfaction survey is sent out every other year to all HutchCC students by email and the information that is collected is reviewed by a group on campus in order to make changes at the school. The survey is expected to take about 10 or 15 minutes to complete and it is open from Monday to March 8.

The survey will ask a variety of questions about classes, safety and security, the online systems, and more. Fortner’s goal for participation is 20% of the student body, although the more students that take it ,the more information the group can consider.

The results collected from the last time the survey was sent out were able to be analyzed and provide improvements to HutchCC. For instance, an initiative to focus on campus security was started, ways to create consistency in programs from instructor to instructor and program to program were identified, and additional parking options were advertised. Along with improvements, the group was able to celebrate the satisfaction students had with subjects such as, academic advisors being knowledgeable about program requirements, students feeling welcomed, and convenient ways of paying school bills.

Along with improving HutchCC and making the students’ voice heard, there is an incentive for taking the survey. If students take the survey they can earn a candy bar and pop. All that is needed is a screenshot of the last page of the survey, then they just need to stop at one of the locations around campus to receive their treats.

The locations and dates that pop and candy will be provided are the following: Thursday at Peel Center; 9 a.m.- 11 a.m. Feb. 26 in Smith Science Hall; 9 a.m.-11 a.m. and 1 p.m.-2:15 p.m. Feb. 27 in Davis Hall; 9 a.m.-11 a.m. and 1 p.m.-2 p.m. Feb. 28 at Cosmetology; and from 9 a.m.-10 a.m. Feb. 29 at Parker Student Union, and from 11 a.m.-noon at the Fire Science Building.
