For many students, enrollment for the fall 2022 and spring 2023 semesters can be a confusing and even intimidating time.

Whether it’s deciding what classes to take, contacting your advisor to set up a meeting to enroll, or deciding if you are even going to return for the upcoming semester, Hutchinson Community College students can face a lot of stress in the enrollment process.

Sloan Hayden, a transfer from Missouri State, found the enrollment process to be relatively smooth after contacting his advisor.

“As soon as I signed here to Hutch I was able to contact my advisor and send over my transcripts,” Hayden said. “I just ask her what classes will benefit me on my degree path and make sure they will all transfer over after graduation. She’s really easy to work with and does a great job.”

Brea Turner, HutchCC’s director of enrollment management and advising services, said that all students should complete enrollment as early as possible.

“Students would benefit from enrolling ahead of time to save their seat in the course,” Turner said. “The student would just have to drop their course prior to the start of class or within the drop period if their plans change.”

Another challenge students face throughout the process is getting in contact with their instructor to set up a meeting.

Turner said she advises students to “Come to the Student Success Center in Parker Student Union,” and from there, they will “get you directed to an advisor, or you can email for additional support.”

When choosing what classes you need to take or want to take, academic advisors can also help direct students down the right path when making that decision.

“Students can schedule an appointment with their advisor,” Turner said. “The student and advisor will create a road map for success in the student’s preferred area of study. This could be an academic or technical program.”
