Tom Worthing, former Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball coach and Blue Dragon Quarterback Club Hall of Famer, died last Thursday at the age of 75.

Worthing was the HutchCC women’s basketball team from 1981 through 1993.

He taught math at HutchCC from 1984 until he retired in 2008.

Worthing was inducted into the Blue Dragon Quarterback Club Hall of Fame in 2015.

The Golden Dragon Award is an honor in which is awarded to an outstanding, full-time faculty member as voted on by their peers. Worthing won this award in 2004.

Throughout Worthing’s 12 seasons, nine of his teams finished in the top three of the Jayhawk West and also earned three trips to the Region 6 Tournament semifinals.

His first two Hutchinson teams posted records of 14-11 and 17-12. However, after that, the Blue Dragon women’s basketball team’s standards were raised.

Before Worthing began his career at HutchCC, he taught and was also a head coach for multiple sports at Inman High School.

Worthing was born on June 24, 1945 in Goodland.

Memorials are suggested to the Hutchinson Community College Endowment Association or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS  67501.
