McCarthy hits a downfall in movie “The Boss”

At its best, Melissa McCarthy’s newest film “The Boss” is mediocre.

At its worst, it’s utter garbage.

Personally, I’m a fan of Melissa McCarthy, she was hilarious in “Bridesmaids” and alright in “The Heat”, but this movie is a stain on her reputation.

McCarthy herself did well in the film, and was its only redeeming quality. However, a good actor in a bad film still makes for a bad film.

In fact, two other great actors appear in “The Boss” Kirsten Schaal, known for “30 Rock” and “Bob’s Burgers”, along with “Game of Thrones” star Peter Dinklage.

Dinklage and Schaal do well with the terrible script they’re given, but do nothing to save the film from itself.

The biggest problem with the film is that it’s written as a comedy, yet it comes off as completely unfunny.

Most of the humor relies on the fact that Melissa McCarthy is a rather heavyset woman, and there are at least three gags of “Oh look! The fat lady fell down and hurt herself!”

It’s the same kind of humor one would expect from whatever garbage Adam Sandler produces every year.

The plot is rather basic. It follows McCarthy’s character as she goes from a child with nothing to a multibillionaire.

She gets arrested for insider trading and goes right back to having nothing. McCarthy then stays with her secretary and learns what it’s really like to have a family.

There isn’t a single point in the movie that is unexpected.

Right from the get-go, the audience can tell exactly how the movie is going to end.

This wouldn’t really be a problem if the plot was delivered in a humorous manner, but it isn’t.

“The Boss” is easily the worst movie I’ve seen this year.

So, if you plan on taking a trip to the theater anytime soon, do yourself a favor and avoid this garbage.
