The Hutchinson Collegian is the student newspaper of Hutchinson Community College. We publish 12 newspapers, six per semester, distributed on Fridays, during the school year. We update our web site regularly during the academic year.

Lizzie Rush, Editor In Chief

Lizzie Rush grew up in Grand Island, Neb. where she graduated from Grand Island Senior High. She is currently a freshman at Hutchinson Community College where she is majoring in journalism. She has aspirations of working in the media field. She enjoys watching movies, going to hockey games, and hanging out with her friends.
Torie Price, Opinion Page Editor

Torie Price, a Hutchinson Community sophomore, is studying journalism with the goal of becoming an investigative journalist. When she is not at work, she spends her time reading NPR and watching her comfort shows. Price plans on pursuing her bachelor’s after her graduation from HCC with aspirations of eventually working as a traveling journalist.

When not playing Dungeons & Dragons, Kai is probably snuggling with their dogs or working on their latest project while listening to a podcast.
Christopher Lachenmaier, staff writer

Chris Lachenmaier is a freshman from Hutchinson. A former track standout, Chris is studying journalism at HutchCC. He likes college football and loves to workout.
Daeton Winebrenner, staff writer

Daeton Winebrenner is the designated video creator for the Hutchinson Collegian. He is a talented multi-instrumentalist along with being an expert armchair football coach. He specializes in cinematography and audio work.
Monique Henderson, staff writer

Monique Henderson graduated from Buhler High School, where she became homecoming queen during her senior year. Monique then came to Hutchinson Community College to study animation, but after she graduated during COVID, she couldn’t find a job so she’s back in school. In her free time, Monique enjoys jumping on her trampoline, drawing, and walking on the treadmill.

Ximena Ayala graduated from Trinity Catholic High School here in Hutchinson, and is currently a freshman at Hutchinson Community College. Ximena is majoring in marketing, but is also passionate about writing. She plans to continue her education at Kansas State. In my free time I enjoy reading and spending time with my family and friends.

Emily Carder has lived in Hutchinson, Kansas, her entire life. While attending Nickerson High School, she discovered her passion for photography and journalism. Now, Emily is taking that passion to the next level as a contributor to Hutchinson Community College.

Kaitlyn is a freshman at Hutchinson Community College, who is pursuing an associates degree. Photography is her favorite hobby and she hopes to become a photographer some day. Kaitlyn loves to watch movies and read books. Kaitlyn also loves to hangout with her friends and family. Taking pictures of her nephew is her favorite part of each month.

Sarah Newberry, who grew up in McPherson and lived there her whole life, loves to bake. She attended McPherson schools she was 16 years old. Then, she attended Victory Village Christian Academy and graduated from there. Initially, Sarah’s major was in English, but she switched to journalism after seeing the excellence of the newspaper. Sarah loves plants, dogs, cats and crocheting. She has several house plants and a dog named Harleigh. She also has two cats named Lucy and Boo. Sarah enjoys writing about a wide range of topics.
Makayla Milhom, staff writer

From Go Eagles to Go Blue Dragons, all the way from Hugoton, Kansas, is Makayla Milhon, or preferably Kayla. While attending Hutchinson Community College, she’ll be studying early childhood education. She grew up a die-hard K-State fan. She loves reading and playing with her puppy, Mellow, whom she and her boyfriend adopted from an animal shelter. Although her puppy is named Mellow, Mellow is anything but mellow.
Preston Reed, Audio Producer

Preston Reed was born and raised in Hutchinson, Kansas. Preston graduated from Hutchinson High School and is in his second year at Hutchinson Community College, where he is majoring in media and film. He is hoping to use his skills to be a significant part of this team. He also might be a bigger Chiefs fan than Brad Hallier.

Born and raised in Hutchinson, Kansas, Bianca went to Trinity Catholic High School and decided to go to Hutchinson Community College to major in Journalism. She aspires to becomea good speaker and become a radio broadcaster. She loves the color pink and anything to do with K-Pop and BTS.

Reyna Sanchez, from Sterling, is a freshman at Hutchinson Community College. Reyna is majoring in journalism. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her friends and taking pictures at sporting events.

Jordan Stimpert graduated from Bucklin High School in Bucklin, Kansas. Jordan has spent her whole life in Bucklin and grew up working at a small family farm. Jordan loves cats and will always stop to pet a stray.

Born and raised in Hutchinson, Cathlyna had been through the Hutchinson and Buhler school districts all her life. She now attends Hutchinson Community College, her major is in Medicine, where she aspires to become a cardiologist. She loves to learn and has a keen eye for art and creativity. She loves sewing, drawing, baking, and anything that will get her hands moving and the cogs turning.
Emma Wuthnow, staff writer

Emma Wuthnow is a freshman at Hutchinson Community College. Her major is music and she is currently working on her general education so she can focus on her degree. She lived in Thailand for three years doing ministry with her parents. She also has friends in the music industry which inspired her to pursue a music degree.
Brad Hallier, faculty adviser

Brad Hallier is in his ninth year as the Collegian’s faculty adviser and teaching journalism at HutchCC. A native of the Kansas City area, Hallier worked 20 years in print journalism, and he now dabbles in radio as a high school sports broadcaster for Ad Astra Radio. A grouchy soccer referee, Hallier takes pride in reffing youth games in Wichita, high school games around the region and college reserves games. He’s a big sports fan, supporting the Kansas Jayhawks, Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals, Sporting Kansas City, Vegas Golden Knights and Liverpool FC. Hallier owns two degrees from the University of Kansas, and one from Allen County Community College, where he also played soccer. He and his wife of 23 years Jennifer have three children – Laurelle (27), Josie (22) and Landon (19).
