Denzel More has made a long journey to get where he is, and he has worked hard to be where he is today.
Being from Australia, American football was different with them playing a different type of sport. More – a Hutchinson Community College freshman punter – has had to adapt in his own way to get used to American football. In Australian football, they would play on an oval-shaped field without pads on. From an American perspective, it looks unique and different, with the Australians calling it ‘Footie’.
“It was maybe 160 feet and 150 yards wide, and there would be around 18 guys on the field without pads. Australian Footie is way different than American football,” More said.

“It is very competitive over in Australia. We have a different point system,” he said.
When More was trying to get recognized by American colleges, he shared a story about how he made it to the United States and how he has the opportunity to kick here.
“One day, I was kicking on FaceTime in front of Coach (Matt) Martin. And the next day he gave me a buzz back and said, ‘we want to take you.’” More said. “So it all just kicked off from there. I was in pretty frequent contact with Coach Martin, and I also got to learn more about the culture and more about the area of how Superman originated from here, and you know, the culture of Smallville and the culture of the people, I’ve really adapted to getting used to the people here, the people here are great.”
The 26-year-old More said he is enjoying his team in Hutchinson and as a Blue Dragon.
“I love being here in Hutch with the best juco in the nation,” More said. “From when you go to Walmart and you see people repping the Blue Dragons, it really gives you a sense of pride and that you truly do mean something to the community. t is a very successful environment which is great to be a part of and you learn so much of what it takes to be here and to be able to do this.”
More has punted 17 times this season and is averaging 44.2 yards per punt.
The top-ranked Blue Dragons next play Saturday at Dodge City.
