To some, Amber Brawner is the Visual Media Design Instructor.
To others, she could be their advisor.
But to the members of the Dragon’s Tale magazine, Brawner was more than simply a club sponsor.
With Brawner moving to a different position at Hutchinson Community College next year in the marketing department, this year is her last year as the Dragon’s Tale faculty sponsor..
The Dragon’s Tale not only gives students the opportunity to write and practice visual design, but also practice their photography and writing skills.
It’s clear how much Brawner meant to her students and especially the staff members.
Chancey Hauck, a sophmore from La Crosse, a Dragon’s Tale member, talks about the positive influence of Brawner.
“Miss Amber has motivated me to step out of my comfort zone all year long, and if it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t have considered taking photos professionally,” Hauck said. “Miss Amber inspires me to work harder each day.”
Like Hauck, Paul Evans, a sophomore from Haven, praised Brawner for her willingness to help her students and club members in any way she could.
“She was always there for me when I needed help,” Evans said. “Whether that be a question for how to use InDesign or helping me track down a camera that I lost, you could really always rely on her to help out with whatever problem you are dealing with.”
But it’s not only Brawner’s students and club members that praise her.
Journalism instructor and The Hutchinson Collegian faculty advisor Brad Hallier had glowing things to say about Brawner.
I have leaned on Amber so many times that I’m sure she has shoulder problems,” Hallier said. “Not only has she been patient with my rants and even helping my students during Wednesday labs, but Amber has become a good friend. We talk about kids’ sports adventures all the time, and our families’ travels a lot. Although she’s just moving across campus, it won’t be the same.”
