The NJCAA is becoming one of the most popular places for athletes around the country.

Jucos can be an ideal place for athletes to come and play their sport, in hopes of getting recruited to their eventual four-year home.

“My recruitment is going well. I went on a visit in the fall, and have another one coming up,” sophomore baseball player Trenton Roehler said. “Picked up a few offers so far and getting a lot of calls and texts, mostly mid major (NCAA Division 1) and high level D2. I feel like I am somewhat close to committing somewhere but waiting to see all options first.”

One of the reasons athletes go the juco route is to try and pick up bigger offers than what their high school recruitment brought them, or try and have a fresh start at the entire process.

“In high school, I didn’t really talk to too much schools and took my first offer, which was Mizzou,” Roehler said. “In juco I’ve made sure to wait to see all options first. In high school, I feel like schools recruited based on projectability whereas in juco it’s all about results and performing well.”

Jucos are filled with talented athletes that are working hard constantly to make sure they get noticed.

“High school recruiting was such a stressful process. I never really got the spotlight I feel like I deserved and it made me angry,” redshirt freshman Aiden Doll said. “Junior college recruitment feels different. I don’t feel as stressed to get to my next school as I did in high school. This time around I know what I want and I know what I’m capable of.”

With the new NJCAA ruling coming out, which states that the years you spend in jucos will not count towards your NCAA eligibility, NJCAA sports could become even more of a hot destination for athletes looking to prove themselves.

“I’ve had a couple division-one mid-major schools reach out to me, and I have a division-one offer,” Doll said “Having the offer pushes me because I know I’m good enough to make it at that level and pushes me to get even better schools.”
