Filing taxes is not the easiest thing in the world to do. From not knowing when you’re supposed to do them to not even knowing how to do them at all, almost every college student in the country experiences these stresses.
However, students shouldn’t have to worry about filing taxes if they have the right understanding on where and how you can get them done.
Avery Edigar, a freshman studying automotive collision and refinishing technology, is a great example of a college student that knows nothing about taxes but is willing to learn.
“I pay someone to do them for me,” Edigar said. “I currently don’t have much time so I would be worried about accidentally filing them wrong.”
When he files, he brings the professionals his paystubs and W-2 forms around March so he can get them done way before the due date April 15. Ediger is open to new opportunities and he is willing to learn in the future after college “for how important taxes are. I would love to learn about them in the future.”
Students can use third party apps like TurboTax, TurboAct, and CashApp, but a reliable one for college students is H&R Block. They have free filing for college students.
It’s simple, you can use your phone, laptop, or tablet. Most of all college financial aid is taxable and your taxes need to be filed. If you don’t file, you could be losing possible dollars in fines and interest.
If you are doing side hustles like DoorDash or Uber, then those taxes might be more complicated than just filing regular taxes.
With 20 million people filing their taxes with H&R Block last year, it just makes the process simpler and easier.
Out of those 20 million people, five million came from other ways of filing their taxes. The countdown is soon. You have till April 15th to file your taxes. It all just starts with your employer handing you your W2 and you making sure that it gets done before the due date of April 15th. To go to the free website you can go to hrblock.com and click on the top left of the screen where it says “Taxes” and from there you can have a choice if you want to do it yourself or have someone else do it for you. If you are filing with a professional they have many different options, you can file online, in person and in a hybrid option.
Filing taxes takes time and can be a stressor. It’s OK if you don’t have the time to file taxes. They just need to get done before the April 15 so you can save yourself stress in the future when you are learning how to file by yourself.
