For a lot of students, the hardest part of the day isn’t the constant homework, but finding a place to wind down and relax amongst the packed schedules and stress.
Whether it’s escaping to a coffee shop, or binging a comfort show, it is crucial for all students to find a time and place to relax and reset.
With hours spent in lecture halls, jobs outside of school, and any extracurricular activities, college can sometimes quickly feel like a blur.
Caden Hendrix, a Hutchinson Community College freshman student studying architectural engineering, notices the difficulty in finding time.
“It’s hard to find time to wind down,” he said. “It’s much easier to keep moving forward and finishing what needs to get done.”
Hendrix makes a good point, as a lot of students won’t allow themselves any time off because of the constant stress of studying.
Other HutchCC students, like Caysen Cox, a freshman studying software engineering, find the time a little easier than others.
“I find time winding down easy,” he said. “I wind down by going home and sleeping.”
But winding down doesn’t always include relaxing, sometimes it could just be doing the things you love. “I do things I enjoy such as playing video games or making music,” Hendrix said.
Even though every student finds ways to relax differently, the search for any time to do it is a universal struggle that branches to everyone. With the constant increasing demands of every student’s attention, finding a time to relax has never been more important.
HutchCC offers many different locations and programs to help students find places to relax. One good spot could be Rimmer Learning Research Center, offering several comfortable spots and a plethora of books to lose yourself in.
Another good location is Parker Student Union, which offers everything from gym equipment to group hang out spots to pool tables, it’s the perfect place to find some way of winding down.
With different locations and programs to help students find calm in the stress of college, it’s clear that colleges are beginning to see the importance of student downtime as much as they do academic success.
Ultimately, however, it’s up to the student themselves to find those little bits of time where they can find peace.
