Even in the face of a disappointing Super Bowl loss for many Chiefs fans, Hutchinson Community College students made the most out of their time watching the big game together.

“I feel like you’re more excited to watch it with your friends,” sophomore Arianna Hubbard said. “There’s so much to look forward to with commercials and the Super Bowl halftime. You just all get to laugh and hang out and watch your favorite sport and that’s pretty cool.”

The energy and excitement was heightened for Hubbard, being able to watch the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22 with many of her friends.

“The energy is very high. Everyone’s cheering, everyone is just having a good time laughing,” Hubbard said. “Especially with me this year being a Chiefs fan being in the room with everyone that hates the Chiefs, it was really fun.”

Although the game energy is Hubbard’s favorite part of the game, other students like sophomore Diego Flores love the light-hearted trash talk that comes with the sport.

“My favorite part of watching is the banter,” Flores said. “It’s very competitive, but it’s also positive, and that’s what’s really good about it.”

Students also enjoy the freedom and environment without parents that comes along with college.

“There’s things that I do and say around my friends that I would never do and say around my parents,” Hubbard said. “ I feel like I can just be myself more around my friends than I can around my parents.”

“I can say things that otherwise would not be tolerable within my family,” Flores said. “But it’s more tolerable to crash out with my friends”

Despite the Chiefs losing, students were able to make the most of Super Bowl Sunday

“It was really cool,” Hubbard said. “It really is different.”
