I am not a big movie fan. I don’t have the attention span for them like I do a TV show – it just seems like a lot of commitment. However, there are three exceptions to my claim: Marvel, Star Wars and Adam Sandler movies.
I, like many others, have been a fan of Adam Sandler for years. He is one of my cinematic heroes. I grew up on movies like “The Waterboy”, “Click” and “Blended”. If I’m down in the dumps and all else fails, I know can pop in a Sandler movie and have a laugh. I also had the pleasure of seeing Sandler perform live in Wichita last December. Not only is he a naturally funny guy, he just isn’t your normal celebrity. Most are very into their image – they spend outrageous amounts on clothes and other amenities, as one does when they are famous. After all, who wouldn’t splurge if they were a multimillionaire? Sandler, though, is famous for his humor and his iconic “basketball shorts and baggy t-shirt” look.
One of my favorite movies of Sandler’s is the classic “Happy Gilmore”, originally released in 1996. For those who haven’t seen it: educate yourself. Sandler plays Happy, who is a hockey player in need of some money who finds out he’s great at golf. It’s a tale of love, sportsmanship and wooden hand jokes (RIP Carl Weathers). It’s a hilarious movie I’d definitely recommend if you’re into Sandler’s kind of quirky adult humor.
Back in May of 2024, Neflix announced the making of the sequel, “Happy Gilmore 2”, and I am beyond stoked for its release.
Sandler will return to the sequel, of course, as Happy Gilmore. Other returning characters include Julie Bowen as Virginia, the love interest, and Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin, the golf pro/nemesis. New additions like Bad Bunny and Travis Kelce have also been confirmed to appear in the movie.
While I’m pumped for the movie’s release, I leave room for disappointment as Hollywood does not have the best sequel track record. “Men in Black International”sucked, the newer Star Wars trilogy sucked – I could go on. I have trust issues when it comes to sequels, but with Sandler on board I am hoping for better results this time around.
He hasn’t released any details about the plot of the sequel, other than the fact that he’s working on the script. But according to Yahoo Entertainment, he knows how much people loved the original “Happy Gilmore”and doesn’t intend on letting anyone down.
I’m taking that statement to heart. So please don’t screw this up, Hollywood. I will never forgive you.
