Many annual events held by Hutchinson Community College have been canceled, restricted, or altered in some way, shape or form in regards to Covid-19. One of those events was the Career Connections Job Fair, but it’s a go this year.
The fair will be held at the Sports Arena on April 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m..With concern as to whether or not it would be held this year, Christopher Lau, Coordinator of Advising, Career Development, and Counseling Services, sent out a survey inquiring about the best interests of the participants.
“In the survey, I asked employers that have attended in years prior if a job fair were held in April this year would they want to attend; 75% of those that responded to the survey replied they wholeheartedly would attend,” Lau said. “With the overwhelming response, we decided to proceed. At the last job fair we held in 2019, we had so many employers, the Sports Arena was packed. We had over 125 employers and over 500 job seekers. With COVID, we wanted to do our best to keep our students, staff, employers, and community as safe as possible. We decided to cut the number of employers to just 76. This will allow bigger aisles and more distance between employer tables.”
There will be Covid restrictions. Temperatures will be taken at the door, and masks and social distancing required.
Sponsors are eager and fully prepared to engage with students during these challenging times.
Covid has caused a constantly shifting work environment, leaving many with no jobs or put in new circumstances with desires to seek new ones. There will be part-time and full-time jobs available, as well as internships.
Students in attendance will be added to a drawing for an 8th generation iPad, AirPods Pro and a $75 gift card to the Campus Store. Students are encouraged to attend and explore what opportunities may be open to them.
