With finals week here at Hutchinson Community College, students are stressed, planning and studying to do their best. But many not only study, they also have other responsibilities outside of academics.

Gillian Schletzbaum, a Hutchinson freshman, shares how she organizes and plans this stressful and busy week.

“I’m not very good at staying on track, so finals week is especially hard for me to sit down and actually study” Schletzbaum said. “I try to start preparing early, but I usually end up waiting till the week before.”

Like many students, Schletzbaum looks for ways and resources to make her study time easier and more flexible.

Schletzbaum also talks about one of her favorite tools that helps her to prepare for her exams.

“I like using Quizlet to help me study,” Schletzbaum said, “I enjoy the learn feature which helps me memorize the definitions.”

As well as Quizlet, there is plenty of material that HutchCC students use to prepare for final exams.

In many areas of life and in different circumstances, it is crucial to learn to balance responsibilities and commitments, what is important and what can wait for later, but for many people finding stability can be quite challenging.

Schletzbaum offers her perspective on  what is most complicated for her when having to balance her life outside of school and final exams.

“Balancing studying is definitely something that doesn’t come easy to me,” She said “however, I was very involved in High School, so I have created a good balance of studying, work, and my social life.”

Finding stability and balance has a greater impact on our motivation than many might realize. Not only that, but it also greatly helps students feel in control of organization skills and stress.

In this final exam season, it’s important to remember that preparation and discipline are key to shining in the future.

“Take a break and then go back to studying,” Schletzbaum said.
