Coming back from an injury is never easy. It can be rough, tough and difficult.
The dedication to a sport will show to teammates and coaches. Beatrice Sales, a sophomore midfielder for the Hutchinson Community College soccer team, is a fighter and doesn’t give up. Giving up has never been an option for Sales, who suffered a season-ending knee injury her freshman season but worked relentlessly to get ready for this season.
“I keep telling myself that it’s going to be all right, trusting the process and trusting God and believing that everything is going to be alright in the end,” Sales said.
Working hard is Sales’ mindset.
“I do it for the team, I do it for everybody, we do it together, we do it for the fans,” Sales said. “I lost half of my season last year, so I’m here to make up for everything. I miss it. I miss doing it for the team.”
Sales scored her first collegiate goal Oct. 1 against Barton. It was an emotional moment for her coaches, teammates and Sales herself.
“We are a good team and we do everything together,” Sales said. “We play together, walk together and talk together. So me scoring that goal was like family time.”
Blue Dragons coach Sammy Lane was on the sideline when Sales scored. To Lane, it was one the most memorable goals by any of his players.
“I’ve been involved with a lot of important goals to win games, win conference titles, win district titles, but this might have been the most emotional I have ever been here at Hutch. It didn’t really win anything except it won our hearts,” Lane said.
Happy tears were shed by Sales, coaches and teammates after the goal. Hutch won the game 2-0, but Sales’ goal was more memorable.
“Wins and losses come and go but a moment like that I will remember for a long time, it really was heartwarming,” Lane said.
That win set the Blue Dragons on a roll, with them winning three in a row and being undefeated in their last five games.
“We are going to be the first HutchCC women’s soccer team to go to nationals, so we are practicing hard every day,” Sales said. “We are motivating each other, we always put God first, we do everything for his honor and His glory.”
