Pick up your art supplies, it is getting close to submitting for The Tulgey Wood, Hutchinson Community College’s annual literary magazine.

There are many types of artforms that can be submitted such as comics, poetry and music compositions.  Submissions and artist’s contact details are to be sent to TulgeyWood@hutchcc.edu, and the due date is Feb. 28..

The Tulgey Wood’s faculty advisor Amber Carithers said her favorite piece of work was a cover art of the magazine created last year by Delaney Hartnett. Carithers said last year was her first year as faculty advisor.

Carithers added that The Tulgey Wood has been a staple and long-lasting publication at HutchCC. 2026 will be the 54th edition of the publication. Carithers said she is honored to keep the tradition alive and encourage students to submit their work. Carithers said that she has an editor and co-editor, and she said her favorite part is collaborating with the editors to make a great publication and seeing all the talent that HutchCC has.

Torie Price, co-editor, said that her job can be a little stressful since she is compiling all kinds of work and making sure it is right. Price’s favorite artwork from The Tulgey Wood was a mask project from an art class. Price started at The Tulgey Wood last spring semester.  Price’s favorite part of the position is seeing all the different artwork.

Students who are interested in submitting work are encouraged not to feel anixous – it could be a good opportunity for exposure. Then artists can really see the value of their artworks since it will make people inspired. It could also be good to grow a community.
