Leadership is a big thing in the Hutchinson community.
At Hutchinson Community College there is an organization called Circle K. The Circle K group meets every Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Parker Alumni Room located in Parker Student Union. Every meeting is led by the club president Kaycee Mason. The meetings start off with a welcome that consists of questions like: “What’s your name,” ‘Where are you from,” “What was your favorite vacation,” and “When choosing a snack: salty or sweet?”
The Circle K club does many activities around the town. This last meeting, the members of the club went to Graber Elementary School to clean up the gardens, and pick weeds and trash up. They also do a service called “Partners,” where mentally disabled individuals come to the school and do an activity with them.
They have a social event every month as well. The social is where the members go out to do something fun and learn more about each other.
The cub has two chairs that decide the social of the month and the service for the month. The social chairs decide ideas of places to go or activities to do before the meeting and announce them during the meeting to be decided on where, when, and what the social will be. The club also has three groups of two people for service chairs. The service chairs job is to come up with ideas of a service project the club can partake in. The chairs bring their ideas to the meeting and as a club we decide which service we would like to do and which one works best for other people.
At the end of every meeting, the members stand up and say their pledge before leaving. The pledge is:
“I pledge to uphold the Objects of Circle K International, to foster compassion and goodwill towards others through service and leadership, to develop my abilities of all people and to dedicate myself to the realization of humankind’s potential.
