As Hutchinson Community College enters the fall season, that means fall break is approaching.

What will students do while on the short break, in between exams, classes, and clubs? Students and faculty alike have worked hard this semester and most likely need some time to relax and refresh after taking in a lot of information over the last several weeks.

Fall break, however, is just one day off from classes – Friday, Oct. 3.

“It’s pretty great. It’s good to have a break after all the classes. I wish it was longer though,” said one HutchCC student, who didn’t want their identity revealed. “A weekend break isn’t really much of a break to be honest. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are so much better than a random day. I mean, it would be better if it started on Thursday. Then I feel like they could call it a weekend, because most people in trades don’t even have classes on Friday to begin with. So it kinda only benefits the GenEds side and it would probably be really good if it benefited the trade side.

“But I guess, like mostly trades, there’s not a ton of people. I guess the majority is GenEds or sociology degrees. So I guess they wanted to benefit the most people.”

Kassie Regehr said she felt fall break’s timeline was correct.

“I think it’s a good, nice little break in between school started and Thanksgiving break and it’s just a little refreshing time,” Regehr said. “I don’t think it’s too short because we have Thanksgiving break coming up soon. So it’s good. I’m excited for it.”

Whether it’s too short or the right timeframe, students will get an extra day off to hang out with friends, relax, and maybe sleep for the whole day.
