Dear The Hutchinson Collegian,
Thank you. Thank you for the past two years.
When I wasn’t sure what to major in or what to do with my life, you gave me a purpose. When I had doubts about being a journalist, you challenged me and showed me this is where I belong.
Even through difficulties and diversity, you pushed me to my full potential. While college has changed me for the better, it wouldn’t be the same without the experiences I’ve had while being on staff. While staying up late to meet deadlines and the long Wednesday lab days may not have been the most enjoyable at times, it’s times like these that I don’t want to end.
As a writer, there are moments I will look back on and know I’ll miss, such as covering games at the Sports Arena, Gowans Stadium, and two national championships out of state. But the memories don’t stop at being a staff writer or sports editor for The Collegian. It’s the little things that I will miss the most: the inside jokes, the quote book, the gaslighting, road trip talks, and sometimes the low-key bullying from each other.
The Collegian has brought out a side of me that I so desperately needed without knowing what it was. I grew not only as a person but also drastically as a sports writer. The Collegian gave me a passion for sports and telling people’s stories that I didn’t even know I had the skill set for.
Looking back on the past two years, I have made many accomplishments and have awards to show for it. Even though it feels good to be recognized for my work, it’s better knowing I had a staff and an advisor that was rooting for me the whole time. It’s the people who make an experience and the environment enjoyable.
So, The Hutchinson Collegian, past and present staff, thank you. I can’t begin to express how thankful I am for the opportunities and memories I have made during my time at Hutchinson Community College.
Greta Klein is an Ellsworth sophomore studying journalism. She is the Sports Editor, and can be contacted on X at @gmklein32.
