Hutchinson Community College students and faculty have entered the final stretch of the spring semester, and most are looking ahead to summer plans.
Before everyone gets to enjoy summer vacation, though, they must complete all of their final exams. Depending on the course, a final could be an exam, group project, reflection paper, or class discussion. Whatever the final entails, students are stressed and are already too burnt out to study.

According to a survey conducted by U.S. News in 2022, more than 89% of students feel stress when it comes to exams, and almost 74% said studying brought them stress. Students are often sleep deprived, eating less nutritious foods, and fueled on caffeine during finals week – this unhealthy lifestyle also contributes to the stress students usually feel during finals week.
With that being said, students are still found studying for hours during this week and the prior week to get the grades they want.
“I usually go back over old tests and see what I got wrong and go over those problems as well as use reviews given in class,” said Liberal sophomore Ariana Hubbard. “I also find Quizlets that help me.”
She has three finals this semester and will most likely be found studying in one of the study rooms in the Rimmer Learning Resource Center.
Laly Duvall, a French international sophomore’s ideal study area is in Rimmer, as well. Duvall recommends studying for finals by reviewing everything that was covered, making notes, and discussing the information with classmates.
Similarly, Emily Malecki, Hutchinson sophomore, spends her study time in Rimmer and plans to work with a group to prepare for her two final exams.
Coincidentally, all of the students interviewed enjoy studying in Rimmer, but that is not the case for all students.
Some may prefer to study at home, at a coffee shop, or in their car. Studying methods vary as well, whether it is making flashcards, pretending to teach someone the subject, or reading slideshows over and over. Whichever method works best for an individual and gives them the grade they would like will do.
