Wichita Wind Surge Baseball

The perfect event for baseball lovers and non-baseball fans alike. Go check out the local minor league baseball team in Wichita, enjoy the nice weather, and cheer loud. There are games on almost any day of the week, take a look at the website to find what date works best for you.

Price: varies per show

Music lovers check out the Wave’s website to find an event you’re interested in. There are several country bands and a few rock groups coming in April. This is an indoor/outdoor venue, make sure to double check which one the show you are buying tickets for is. Tickets vary in price, one show was $25 per person another was at least $50.

Sand Hills State Park

Address: 4207 E. 56th Ave., Hutchinson, KS, 67502

Price: $5 for day parking permit and $10 per night for a camping permit

If you are looking for a place to mountain bike, hike, run, or camp this is the place for you. It is cheap, nearby, and full of beautiful Kansas scenery. The trails are all less than 3 miles and are rated at moderate difficulty levels. This is a great place to spend the day wandering around.

Hedrick’s Exotic Animal Farm:

Address: 7910 N. Roy L. Smith Rd., Nickerson, KS, 67561

Price: $40 for a family tour of 4 and $10 for each additional person. Reservations are required.

If you have not been to Hedrick’s, it is a local gem. It is a farm full of zebras, giraffes, camels, and more. Definitely worth the visit for any friend group.

Hutchinson Fox Theatre:

Price: $5 per person

Upcoming movies: “Walk the Line”, “Batman”, and “When Harry Met Sally”

Enjoy a classic movie at the historic downtown Fox Theatre. If you haven’t watched one of these movies you might as well check it out. Doors open 30 minutes before showtimes. Concessions are available.

Third Thursday:

Address: Downtown Hutchinson

Price: free to attend

On April 17, from 6-8 p.m. is the next Third Thursday. This event occurs each month in downtown Hutch. It is a great way to support local artists, businesses, musicians, and more. Or if you want to save money just walk around and enjoy the sights and sounds of Hutch.

Extreme Crossfire Paintball Park:

Address: 5 N. Mohawk Rd., Hutchinson, KS, 67501

Price: Approximately $40 plus extra for paintballs

If you enjoy being outside, running, around, and firing guns then this is the right place for you. The park is open Saturdays and Sundays, check out their website (www.extremecrossfirepaintball.com) for more details.

Cosmosphere

Price: Hall of Space Museum is $16.50 per person for non-Reno County residents and free for Reno County residents. Also free for HutchCC students with ID.

Just a quick walk from campus and you’re there. This museum is full of amazing artifacts and history. For an additional fee you can visit the planetarium, Dr. Goddard’s Rocket Lab Experience, or the Carey Digital Dome Theater. If you enjoy history or science at all, it is incredible!

Apron Strings Cooking Classes

Address: 1 S. Main St., Hutchinson, KS, 67501

Price: varies depending on the class

Take a cooking class and support a local business. Whether you attend a class to learn to make creme brulee, ribeye, or spätzle it will be a great time and you will get a homemade meal out of it.

The Spotlight Sessions: A Music Showcase – Theatre Production

Address: Stringer Fine Arts Building on HutchCC main campus

Price: Free with student ID

Shows: April 18 and 19 at 7 p.m.

Attend a free event and support your peers. Stringer hosts a variety of student-led events throughout the year.
