Hard work is grueling and can often feel meaningless. In music, the efforts are put into making a concert perfect.

For the musicians that take part in the Hutchinson Community College symphonic band, great lengths have been taken to ensure a beautiful show.

On Thursday, the HutchCC symphonic band will be presenting four great pieces for the “Spring Flourishes” concert. This concert will have themes of new beginnings and greenery piercing through the frigid snow to signify better times ahead.

The special aspect of this concert is that before the college goes on, Nickerson High School will take the stage to perform their own pieces. These combined concerts are important, as it showcases the HutchCC program and why they should consider HutchCC. It is a part of the local recruiting for the college.

The band members have been preparing for the performance for months, working on the music since coming back from winter break in January. Three times a week they meet to workshop their music and perfect their craft.

The music sounds great, but it is anything but a perfect art. Logan Smith, a HutchCC sophomore and member of the band, said “I feel really good about the concert. There are a few things we need to iron out, but I think we can do that and I think it will sound great.”

After the concert, there will be one more performance remaining for the symphonic band. That will take place at the end of the spring semester on April 29. That means that this concert is one of the few remaining chances that people will have to see the symphonic band. Taking advantage of this concert is in the interest of all who like music, as they will get not just one group’s performance but two.
