When it comes to picking a career or finding the path to pursue a specific career. it can be hard especially for college students getting out into the world and maybe not having any working experience.
Hutchinson Community College has Career Services and there is no one better to assist students than Rick Kraus, HutchCC’s Career Coordinator.
Why did Kraus come to HutchCC? Kraus said he wanted a job and felt like he had good experience to help students with their careers.
Kraus said he felt his time at Hutch public schools had prepared him for his responsibilities of career services.”
Kraus said after 16 years of working with Hutchinson Public Schools, he continued to work with students.
Kraus said that after retiring in 2021 after 16 years from Hutch public schools, Kraus had become a math teacher at Buhler., and then Kraus had decided to become a career services coordinator.
When it comes to advice for graduating students, Kraus said “that students need to do their research, work on a cover letter, and be patient to find the right job ,so basically have a clear goal.”
The Career Services at HutchCC has many services to help students write cover letters, resumes and even help practicing for performing interviews. Kraus said “he performs these services to all students” Speaking of services and tools there is another handy feature of the college right at student’s fingertips called Career Zone, which Kraus said “was bought to be the job board for the college and has local jobs right here in Hutchinson.” \
Kraus also said that “There are jobs that can also be found in Ellsworth and Wichita.”
Now students that feel it is impossible to get a job can feel at ease because if they follow the advice from Kraus they could possibly go through many jobs, but at least the student wouldn’t be out in the cold completely. They would have some tools and practice that will help them get through that interview and hopefully appreciate after getting that joyful phone call or email.
