Football. One of the most intense and physically demanding sports that one can play. Among the most crucial parts in playing the sport is mental and physical preparation.

To help the preparation for the NJCAA semi final game on Sunday, the Hutchinson Community College football players have multiple different routines.

“My pregame routine consists of stretching, listening to some music to relax myself, praying, and reading my Bible,” wide receiver Aiden Bruce said. “I get ready by making sure that I’m hydrated, that my mind is clear and focused on the game, and I eat a good meal beforehand.”

Football is physical, and can take a toll on the body and mind. Fueling the body and mind the proper way is extremely crucial.

“My pregame consists of getting into the word, listening to music and going through my stretching routine, re-reading my notes, and lastly I hit the field two hours before the game to get my arm warm,” quarterback Christian Johnson said.

One thing that often varies between different players, is their feelings before taking the field, and what goes on inside of their mind.

“Before taking the field, I am calm and confident in what I’ve prepared myself for throughout the week and year, and confident in what the Lord has in store for me,” Johnson said.

“My whole life I’ve always gotten butterflies before games, and it is a mix between nerves and excitement.” Bruce said. “Usually, when I’m feeling like that I will pray and listen to relaxing music to help me stay comfortable.”

When it comes to Blue Dragon football, something to understand is that Blue Dragons coach Drew Dallas will always find a way to get his guys ready for whatever challenge stands in their way.

“Coach Dallas loves to hype us up before our games,” Bruce said. “He doesn’t yell all of the time when he gives his speeches, but when he does, it is so electric and you can feel the energy that everyone has, and everyone is ready to get a dub! He often will tell us to focus on going 1-0 and not to overlook our opponents ever.”

The Blue Dragons will face off against Georgia Military at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Georgia.
