On March 31, Hutchinson Community College announced plans to hold a modified version of commencement, utilizing a virtual format.
This follows the recommendation of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s guideline that large gatherings of 10 and more people should be limited until on or after May 10.
Hutchinson Community College President Carter File said in a press release, “The academic achievements of our students deserve to be properly recognized and celebrated. Toward this goal, we are planning a virtual ceremony to be held at the regularly scheduled time – Friday, May 8 at 7 pm.”
Viewers can expect many traditional elements of graduation to be honored, including reading the names of graduates who have turned in required items and a program’s creation. This list of names and the program for the event will be available on the HutchCC website, and will later be accompanied by a recording of the program for on-demand viewing.
Licensed Practical Nursing, Associate Degree Nursing, Health Information Management, and EMS pinning ceremonies will follow the altered format of HutchCC’s main commencement exercises. More information for these ceremonies will follow upon the finalization of format and timing.
