Students donate blood

On Nov. 12, the Amer-ican Red Cross hosted a blood drive at HCC.

The blood drive was held in the basement of the student union. There were a lot of students who went out and donated.

According to one of the Red Cross workers, there were over 50 people who donated.

“I’m a nurse and I feel obligated to donate,” said Holley Angel, Hutchinson.

Donating blood is something that Angel has done before and she will continue to do so.

Italy Haden-Thomas, Hutchinson, thinks donating blood is one of the best things you can do. However, she is unable to.

“I weigh 102 pounds and you have to weigh at least 110 to donate,” she said.

“I’ve seen a lot of people go in and out and I’m glad they’re donating. People need this.”

Italy said that as soon as she meets the weight requirement she will definitely donate blood.

Some people are unsure about donating blood.

“I want to help people and know my blood type,” said Brooke Keller, Salina.

“At the same time my blood is being taken out of my body and that’s not where it belongs,” Keller said.

She did end up donating and felt great about it.

Many lives will be saved because of the generous donations.

By 4 p.m., the last of the donations were nearly completed.
